Amir Sultan
Amir Sultan was born in Brooklyn, and resides in Queens, NY. Mr. Sultan attended high school in New York City where he was a city finalist in track, played JV Basketball at Long Island City HS and Varsity Basketball at Springfield HS. Mr. Sultan has been around the “New York City Game” for more than 35 years as a player, and then a coach and instructor.
Some of the students Mr. Sultan has mentored and coached are presently considered top players at well-known colleges and universities around the country. Equally important, many of his former players have earned their degree and are positive role models themselves; returning to their neighborhoods and communities to help the youth understand the importance of academics and life skills, and how it relates to success in athletes.
Coach Amir conceived, coordinated, and Directed the first successful NYC Parks & Recreation coed summer basketball camp in Far Rockaway. The camp was highlighted by skill instruction from legendary coach Gil Reynolds, and Far Rockaway Great Mel Utley. The campers favorite instructors were Far Rockaway’s own Willis Perry, and Roy Henderson. The camp was fully funded for 3 consecutive years during Mayor David Dinkins administration.
Mr. Sultan has coached boys and girls of varying ages, and has earned numerous awards resulting from the many championships attained. Mr. Sultan has been offered coaching positions at numerous levels. He has chosen to remain with the New York Skyriders: teaching, mentoring and coaching on the community level Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), including many children who are “at risk.”
